If your looking for somewhere private and peaceful then I highly recommend Hunter River Retreat. Myself and friends stayed here in March 2014 and we couldnt fault it, We made good use of the private pool, jacuzzi and BBQ and had a friendly visit off the horses and some wild kangaroos.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hunter River Retreat. The retreat is located in charming rustic farmland, easily accessible with a regular (non-4WD) car. The property has been subtly landscaped to provide views of the surrounding coutryside from each cabin. The cabins are well appointed and while within a short stroll of one another, are still secluded by space and trees from one another for privacy.
We had a Christmas in July celebration here for 20 people and hired out Ironbark lodge, Bluegum and Cedar. It was so easy to organise. When we arrived the houses were really clean and kitted out really well for a large group cooking a Christmas dinner! The facilities are great, we used the tennis court and went on some beautiful walks in the surrounding countryside. What an idylic place to stay.
We’ve been to Hunter River Retreat (Bluegum Cottage) 4 times now, previously it was weekenders, but just recently we stayed for 2 weeks! There are lots of thing to love about it – The peaceful location (rural setting complete with cows, kangaroos & horses!), privacy of each cabin, the jacuzzi looking out over the valley, the log fire, fully equipped kitchen.
The cedar Cabin encapsulates a perfect cottage in the bush. A log fire, bbq plate , fully workable kitchen, jacuzzi on the deck, gorgeous views, fabulous silence, privacy and a comfy bed. The ambience here is second to none.
